Journey to Medicine

“From a young age, I always knew I wanted to go into the healthcare field.  After completing nursing school I worked for five years in the Intensive Care Unit at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas.  While I loved my job,  I wanted to go back to school for my Masters’ degree  and become a Nurse Practitioner.  Lucky for me I was placed at MD Pediatric Associates for one of my first clinical experiences.  I immediately fell in love with the office and knew that primary care was where I was meant to be.  During my last semester of school, I completed my internship and began working full time immediately upon graduation.  All these years later I am beyond blessed that I still have such a love of my job, my patients, my staff and our amazing office.”

Fun Facts

Kim lives in Frisco with her family.  She and her husband of 25 years, Chris, have two daughters—Morgan (20) and Kamryn (17)—and 4 dogs!  Morgan is finishing up her 1st year of nursing school at TCU and Kamryn is in her junior year of high school and competing as a Level 9 gymnast.  Kim loves teaching and taking yoga classes and is currently working towards completing her RYT-500 certification.  She has a passion for taking care of both the physical and mental health of her patients, with a special interest in anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and body image struggles.

"Highly recommend MD Pediatrics. We started bringing our two year old as a newborn and now are bringing our second child. I have had a great experience with Dr. Holt, Dr. Shumate, and Becca McCurdy who is a lactation consultant. They also have a nurse line that is available 24/7 and I’ve found it to be very helpful. We currently see Dr. Shumate after Dr. Holt stopped seeing patients during COVID. Dr. Shumate is attentive and listens well to any concerns and I feel very comfortable with her. Overall, it has been a great experience and I would recommend MD to any parent."
