Keeping Kids Safe: Celebrating National Safety Month This June
by Dr. Diane Kwon on June 1, 2025June is National Safety Month — a time to spotlight the little things we can all do to keep our families healthy, happy, and safe. As your child’s healthcare team, we know how fast little ones grow and explore the world around them. That curiosity is something we love to see — and it’s also why safety matters more than ever.
Childproof Your Home: Lock up cleaning supplies and medicines, cover outlets, and use safety gates near stairs.
Water Watch: Toddlers can drown in just a few inches of water — never leave them unattended near bathtubs, pools, or buckets.
Playground Smarts: Make sure kids use age-appropriate playground equipment and always wear helmets when biking or scootering.
Stranger Safety: Practice safe behaviors like knowing full names, phone numbers, and what to do if they get separated from you in public.
Digital Safety: Talk about online privacy, setting strong passwords, and being cautious when chatting or sharing on social media.
Independence With Boundaries: As kids begin to explore more freedom, set clear rules around curfews, transportation, and checking in.
- Infants and toddlers: Rear-facing car seats until age 2+ (or until they outgrow the seat).
- Young children: Booster seats until seat belts fit properly (usually around 4’9″).
- Teens: Set ground rules for driving — limit nighttime driving and the number of passengers.
As your pediatric provider, we’re here not just when your child is sick — but also to help prevent injuries and keep your child safe year-round. Whether it’s reviewing car seat installation or offering tips on internet safety, we’re just a call or visit away.
Take time this June to check smoke detectors, review your emergency contacts, and have a family safety talk. Small steps now can make a big difference later!
If you have questions or want personalized safety advice for your child, schedule a visit or call our office — we’re here to help you raise safe, strong, and healthy kids.
