A Letter From Dr. Holt: We are Here for You
by Dr. Holt on April 3, 2020Dear MDPA Parent/Grandparent:
First and foremost I want to unequivocally (woohoo–betcha didn’t think I had an unequivocally in my repertoire) let you know that I am 100% healthy! I have no fever, no difficulty breathing, and no cough.
Coincidentally, I had a episode of knee pain which started on March 20 and knocked me out of the office for the past week or two. This knee pain was intense but temporary. Thankfully, it has totally resolved. I have been walking daily with my wonderful Cocker Spaniel, Tish! I have been cleared to start running today (Tish loves running as much as I do), and we will go for our usual hour run later today.
One of the reasons I love living, running, and working in the Lewisville/Coppell/Flower Mound/Highland Village area is the upbeat attitude and energized spirit of the people. There are families and kids with whom I have grown relationships for the past 40 years as a pediatrician. I also love the overall high quality of our area’s medical community (including the Flower Mound orthopedist, Dr Manuj Singhal, who diagnosed, treated, and erased my knee pain).
I am going to resume seeing kids this coming Monday, April 6th. Because of my age, I am a little more vulnerable to the silent yet potentially very aggressive coronavirus infection. For this reason, my incredible pediatrician partners have allowed me to work from home doing virtual visits, primarily appointments related to ADHD and other behavioral health visits. My pediatrician partners, first-rate nurse practitioners and physician assistant will be seeing sick visits at our Coppell office and well visits at our Flower Mound office. For appropriate appointments, they will also see virtual visits.
I want to strongly emphasize that I am so fortunate to work with the best of the best: Dr. Kincaid, Dr. Fitzgerald, Dr. Forbes, Dr. Vani, and Dr. Shumate, Dr. Upperman-Xu as well as the nurse practitioners Kim Mowery, Becca McCurdy, and physician assistant, Sarah Null. You can count on each member of MDPA to see your child and give your family quality personalized care. I also want you to feel comfortable that we will provide this care in the safest and most effective office-environment possible.
Plus, we have added Dr. Steffi Mendoza, pediatric psychiatrist, to provide depth to our ability to take care of any more intense behavioral health problems your child may have. Dr. Mendoza will be seeing patients via virtual visit for the time being.
I know how difficult it is to feel safe and protected bringing your child to any medical office with the ongoing concerns related to the Corona virus. However, I can assure you we are fiercely protective of the kids and parents we see. Keep in mind, we can only be here for you if you come to us with your questions and concerns. We must know there is a problem to help fix it. So always feel free to call!
Our mission is to be here today, tomorrow, in the immediate and distant future. Dr. Kincaid and I started our practice with the same tenacious spirit and commitment to helping you create success as a parent and success for your child’s future in every way possible.
Make appointments for well care, sick visits if needed, and for any specific behavioral, parenting, or learning-related concerns you have. Tell your friends, neighbors, and relatives–we are happy and proud to see any kids you refer to MDPA!
These are tough times, but we are equally tough, resilient, and effective listeners. We will be here for you to help problem-solve and create an expansive beachhead of success for you and your child step by step into the future.
A final note: walk, jog , run, swim, or do indoor workouts–ANY activity, aerobic workout, or simply going for a family walk is beyond healthy! These free-flowing activities can gently but firmly take the lid off the pressure cooker and turn on the kind of casual, free-flowing conversation and internal synergy that I call KM–Kinetic Meditation. (And yes, Tish agrees, KM Rocks).
