More Than Meets The Eye
By now you probably already know what a great doctor Dr. Carla Upperman-Xu is. However she is more than an exceptional pediatrician. She is also a cook, baker, and world traveler. We decided to do a mini interview with Dr. Upperman to give you a look at the person behind the stethoscope!
We know how much you love to cook! What is your favorite dish to prepare?
My favorite dish to cook is pasta bolognese. It takes most of the day to make, but there is something very relaxing about having a pasta sauce simmering on the stove. Baking has also always been a hobby of mine, from making cakes to tarts to fresh bread. Nothing quite brings people together like sitting down for a good meal!
You have gone to many places around the world with your husband. Do you have a favorite trip you have gone on?
My husband and I enjoy traveling. One of our favorite trips was in Eastern Asia – traveling in China, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Singapore. There were so many incredible sites there – from the architecture to the beautiful landscapes. We also enjoyed trying out many different foods!
What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of working with MD Pediatrics is getting to meet so many amazing kids and their parents. I love being able to walk into one room and see a sweet newborn and talk with parents about what to expect with a new child, and then be able to go into the next room to see a five year old who is talking up a storm and wants to know everything that is going on and why. It is such a joy to see patients as they are growing up, to be able to take care of them when they are not feeling well and also to see them for check ups when they are doing great.
